Disney´s Princess & Me doll Review and Giveaway by A Mom´s Balancing Act

If you read my previous blog post, you probably know by now that I have this crazy good feeling towards new Disney´s Princess & Me dolls. And though I am not a fan of big dolls, because I just don´t have the space for them as a collector, it feels to me that I am willing to get rid of most of the furniture in the guest room just to make space for these dolls. Is that bad? Well, if your answer was yes, I am sorry to hear that, but the furniture is still going, lol. These dolls are adorable, beautifully scupled, and have the most beautiful outfits that I have ever seen in the princess dolls. Right now I am only a doll collector, but one day I am going to be a mom, and since my daughter´s name is already considered as Ariel, what better than to have some "Little Mermaid" dolls in line ready for her welcoming arrival.

Well, for the moment, these dolls make me feel very special and I hope soon I can review a couple of them for you guys, but more as an adult collector, rather than a kids point of view, which I feel also matters since we are the ones that decide if we get ALL the collection, rather than just one or two.

It is important to hear and read reviews about toys from a kid´s point of view as most blogs show, but I feel it is also important to hear it from the adult collectors too, since not only kids buy toys anymore, and sometimes it is the adult collector the one that invests even more in the product, because it gets passionate about having a complete set or complete collection.

In my reviews I love to add photos to show details of the product, and most of the times add a video too, so that people get that feeling of almost having the product in their hands. I believe strongly that if you see it, you can get it, and videos supports how products looks like with even more detail, and how it works if it applies. I have to confess that nothing gives me more joy than talking about toys, sharing my experience with them, and recommending people around the world a good product. The great thing about being bilingual, is that you get to share this with even more people around the world, so that makes me very happy.

Review on Skull Shores Abbey Bominable of Monster High

What it is: This is a doll from the Monster High by Mattel Series. It belongs to a set called Skull Shores. This set was based on the animated feature called Monster High escape from Skull Shores, where some of the main characters of this series spend Spring Break in a peculiar island. The name of this doll is Abbey Bominable, and she is the daughter of the Yeti.

Physical Characteristics and Features:  This is a movable-jointed doll, which means that her joints movie in different directions. Her skin is bluish and glittery. Her hair is white and has a light blue, magenta, and violet hear streaks below all the white hair. There are random sparkly strands of hair as well. 

All of these items were made like this to cause the icy-shiny effect. Her makeup matches her hair colors, and she wears both eye shadow and lipstick. Her eyes are a tone between pink and magenta. You can see her fangs showing on her upper lip. Her fingers reflect that she has delicate claws. 

Her outfit is a bathing suit and a purple cover skirt. The patterns of her outfit are meant to theme her favorite stage of freezing and cold. She wears a beach hat that is purple and translucent. It is made of plastic and the mold is made to resemble it was made of some icy material. Her high heals are made of the same color and have two icicles as the heal part. They are also purple and translucent. She wears a bracelet on her left arm. It is fiusha and simulates beads. It also has a skull key with Monster High’s logo. She also holds a frozen dessert on that hand. The cup is made of plastic and it resembles to be made out of ice, and the frozen dessert on it is fiusha. She comes with a stand that holds the doll from her waist, and a comb of the same color which is blue-green. You can see those details on the video review and the photos. She also comes with a small poster/cartoon photo, which has the skull shores island map on the reverse.

A warning: Some parts come off and are small. They could be a choking hazard, so because of these, it is recommended for ages 6 and up. The instructions show how parts of the doll can come apart, being these either the wrist, lower arm, calf decorations, etc. depending on the doll.

Likes: I love shiny things. She is shiny from her skin, hair, and clothes, so you can imagine that look I had since the first time I saw her, and every time I look back at her. I am not a fan of pink, but I love how it looks on her combined with the rest of the colors. They used cold colors to simulate that this is her preferred state. I love that she looks fashionably glamorous. I like her shoes a lot, and think that the mold they used for her hands is very interesting.

Dislikes: Oh my god, that hat! It is not that it is ugly, it is just that it is made of a heavy plastic material, so it keeps on falling off. It looks great on her, but that is if either the hat doesn’t fall nor the doll. The way they placed a transparent rubber band to hold her bracelet. I don’t know if the doll was in the heat or the sun, but it bent because of the pressure this rubber band applied on the arm. I didn’t like that at all. Another thing that I found and I almost had a heart attack when I did was that she had a stain on her right calf. If you see the video you can see this stain. I swear that I didn’t see it until I was making the video. Oh my, oh my! The other Monster High doll I have didn’t have any complications or defects, but it seems that this one had two. It doesn’t mean that all Monster High dolls have problems, not at all. I just think that she was that lotto ticket where the quality assurance person just happened to turn the other way when that one was passing by. Yes I know that I could just return her to the store, but if you know me, I love all my dolls no matter what condition they are in. It doesn’t make me happy, but they deserve a chance too. Almost like friends, or pets (who are also your friends). Everyone is different, and well, these two defects my doll has makes her unique. This is what the characters are trying to share with everyone in the series anyways. To love people even if they are different. For the rest of you, well, if your doll has any problems like these, you can just return her and exchange her for another. Those were the only things I didn’t like. And well, the things I didn’t like weren’t really related to the character nor the brand, it was just my luck on production defects, doesn’t mean it can happen to you. As I said, I have another doll that I have previously reviewed, and she doesn’t have any defects.

Conclusion: I recommend this doll to all of you doll collectors and doll lovers. Why? Well if you are a collector, you know that having unique dolls and trends is a good thing especially if you are looking for those outstanding pieces in your display case. Another thing is that since they are monsters, they do give a good conversational motif. This brand of dolls is very popular now at days, so they just disappear from the store shelves. This is how the market is going to be for the doll collectors, and you know what I mean with that. Popular dolls are always a good investment. For the doll lovers, she is just beautiful. What can I say? She shines!!!  Just one suggestion, since it may happen, just check your doll for any visible errors or so before your purchase. If you don’t mind them or think they might raise the value of your doll, go ahead. That does happen! But if you mind and want the doll perfect, well just get the one behind that one.  I do think she is a great acquisition, and I am looking forward on getting more Monster High dolls. Yay for me for getting this doll!

Lo que es: Esta muñeca es una muñeca de la serie de Monster High hechas por Mattel. Pertenece a un set llamado Skull Shores (Isla Calavera). Este set está basado en la aventura que los personajes tienen durante sus vacaciones de primavera en la cual terminan en esta peculiar isla. El nombre de esta muñeca es Abbey Bominable, y es la hija del Yeti (Abominable hombre de las nieves). 

Características físicas: Esta es una muñeca la cual tiene articulaciones que pueden moverse en diferentes direcciones. Su color de piel es azulado y contiene diamantina para dar la ilusión de que está congelada. Su cabello es blanco y tiene tres mechones en la parte inferior los cuales son celeste, magenta, y violeta. En su cabello también tiene mechones que brillan. Todos estos efectos ayudan a dar la intención de el estado favorito de Abbey, el cual es de una temperatura muy baja. Su maquillaje combina su cabello ya que su sombra de ojos es celeste y magenta, y sus labios son de un tono magenta también. Se pueden ver sus colmillos saliendo de su boca dibujados en su labio superior. Los dedos de sus manos asimilan tener delicadas garras.

Viste un traje de baño y pareo de color púrpura. El traje de baño tiene colores fríos y tiene un diseño moderno. La verdad que se le ve muy bien. Usa un sombrero color morado que al igual que sus zapatos están hechos de plástico y el diseño simula que ambos están hechos de algún tipo de estructura hecha de hielo. Para este efecto ambos son semi-transparentes. En su brazo izquierdo porta una pulsera que pareciera hecha de cuentas fiusha el cual también muestra una llave calavera, con el logo de Monster High. Otro accessorio que lleva es su bebida o postre helado. En una taza hecha de plástico que asemeja hielo, y es semi-transparente, un postre color fiusha que aparenta estar congelado también. El paquete incluye un estandarte para poder soportar a la muñeca, y un cepillo con el logo de Monster High. Ambos son del mismo color verde-azulado. Incluido también viene el mapa de la Isla Calavera, y al reverso muestra una foto de el personaje de Abby caricaturizado. Recuerde que este producto tiene piezas pequeñas que pueden ser un riesgo para menores de seis años. Así que la edad recomendada para esta muñeca es arriba de 6 años de edad. Para mostrar las piezas que se remueven, solo diríjase para con las instrucciones que también están incluidas en la caja.

Lo que me gustó: Me gustan mucho las cosas que brillan. Esta muñeca brilla de su piel, cabello y ropa, así que podrán imaginarse la principal razón por la cual me gustó bastante. La disfruto mucho desde la primera vez que la vi, y cada vez que la vuelvo a mirar. No soy fan del color rosado/magenta, pero combinado con el resto de los colores como es en este caso con ella se ve genial. Usaron colores fríos en su diseño, y me encanta el hecho de que se ve glamurosamente a la moda. Me gustan mucho sus zapatos, y creo que el molde que han usado para sus manos es muy interesante.

Lo que no me gustó: ¡No, no, y NO! ¡Ese sombrero! No es que el sombrero sea feo ni mucho menos. El problema es que está hecho de plástico y el material es un poco pesado. Me ha dado algo de problema poder tener a la muñeca sin caerse o ella o el sombrero de lo pesado que está. Aunque el video que hice está en inglés, se puede ver como me causa algo de problema ahí también poderle dejar su sombrero puesto. Se le ve espectacular, simplemente está algo pesadito para ella. Otra cosa fue la forma en la que le pusieron una liga de plástico transparente para soportar la pulsera que lleva en el brazo izquierdo. No sé si la muñeca estuvo expuesta al sol o al calor, pero entre eso y la presión de la liga deformó esa parte del brazo de la muñeca. Y eso no me gustó en lo absoluto. Otra cosa que noté lo cual casi hace que me dé un paro cardiaco fue que en su chamorro derecho, tiene una mancha como color mostaza. Al principio pensé que era un pedazo de cartón que se le había quedado pegado, pero NO, es como una mancha o quemado de la pintura que contiene la diamantina. No había notado este defecto hasta que comencé a hacer el video, y ya sé que es tan sencillo como devolver la muñeca y cambiarla por otra. Para los que me conocen, no es mi estilo. Claro que me entristeció ver 2 defectos en mi muñeca, pero si la regreso; ¿Que creen que va a pasar con ella? Probablemente destrucción. Para mi las muñecas son como amigos y/o mascotas que también son tus amigos. Merecen otra oportunidad ya que todos somos diferentes. Después de todo, eso es lo que los personajes de la serie están tratando de inculcarle a la gente, que todos somos únicos y diferentes. Si así tenía que ser mi muñeca, que así sea. No me preocupa tanto que la próxima muñeca que compre tenga defectos porque tengo otra que ya hemos evaluado en este blog y ella no tiene ningún defecto en lo absoluto. Supongo que solo me tocó la suerte.

Así que las cosas que no me gustaron, en mayoría fueron cosas ajenas al diseño en particular y más como errores de fábrica donde quizá el asesor de calidad andaba coqueteándole a alguien y se despistó solo en esa única muñeca que pues, yo compré.

En conclusión: Le recomiendo esta muñeca a todos los amantes de las muñecas y a los coleccionadores de ellas también. ¿Porque? Pues porque si usted colecciona muñecas, sabe muy bien que tener a ese elemento único y original, siempre da algo de que hablar en una vitrina, y aparte cuando las muñecas son tan populares como lo son las muñecas de Monster High, uno sabe que el valor puede subir en unos cuantos años. Esto por el efecto que está teniendo sobre toda una generación. ¿Que más puedo decir? Pues que brilla! Para la gente a quienes les gustan las cosas que brillan, es una gran muñeca. A mi me gusta mucho y es uno de mis personajes favoritos en la serie. Aunque francamente me gustan todas las muñecas de esta marca. Una cosa si quiero dejar en claro. El hecho de que esta muñeca tuviera algunos defectos no es del todo una cosa negativa. Para los coleccionadores, hay veces en los cuales una muñeca con algún defecto de fábrica puede tener un valor aún más alto en el mercado, y si no me creen, investiguen un poquito en la red y se sorprendan. También, es muy sencillo, solo basta con revisar bien la muñeca antes de comprarla, y si al comprarla uno nota defectos que no se veían antes de abrir el paquete, pues solo llevarla de vuelta a la tienda y cambiarla por otra. ¡Santo remedio! Se me hizo una buena compra, y estos inconvenientes no me desanimaron a comprar más muñecas Monster High. ¡Solo a la otra me fijo mejor!

Review Monster High Skull Shores doll

This is a review on the doll Ghoulia Yelps of the Monster High Brand by Mattel, and belongs to the Skull Shores Set.

Today's review is on a very interesting character on the doll series of Monster High sold by Mattel. She is part of a set called Skull Shores. This is when all the monsters of Monster High go on spring break, and end up on this peculiar island. This adventure inspired a set of eight dolls. To identify them you would have to look at the tag on the front of the box to were it would say "Skull Shores" and they are mostly wearing a bathing suit with a cover skirt.

I got this doll not so long ago, just thinking that well, she was unique and different in a good way. I have heard of some parents not liking the typical "princess" like dolls, though I personally don't mind. But for those who think that way, I think this is a very good alternative for play and collectible dolls.

This one in particular is based on a character named Ghoulia Yelps who is the daughter of the zombies. I thought it was pretty clever considering that zombies eat brains, that this young monster girl is in fact a brainiac. She is very clever and smart, specially with science and computers, according to the series. I guess that is one of the reasons why I chose her. I am really not a fan of zombies, but this doll had something that just made me grab her from the shelf and buy her. For sure, I love the colors used to create her.
For once, a great feature of this doll like the others from this line, is the fact that their joints are movable. This allows you to pose her in any way you want. So here are the physical attributes of this doll:

• - She's about 11" in size
• - Her joints are movable, and some parts can be removed. (Arms and hands)
• - Her hair is blue with light blue streaks, and this one is the first time that has short hair.
• - Her outfit is composed from a bathing suit with nice red accents in her waist and V-neck on the top. Green splatters, and green straps. She also wears a red cover skirt with the print of brains.
• - The accessories are a skull-like coconut, with a brainy slushy, a straw and a bone umbrella. She wears a blood-dripping bracelet, and her shoes match this feature with red translucent blood-dripping high heels. And let's not forget about her green sun glasses.
• - She also comes with a green hair brush that has the Monster High skull logo and says Monster High, and a doll stand of the same color.
• - Included with this comes a small photo print of the cartoon character, and in the reverse of it, a map of skull shores, and the instructions.

This is a great doll to start a unique and special collection. This line of dolls came out on 2010 distributed by Mattel, and all dolls are based on monsters from different horror movies, letting us see that other side in possibilities.
I feel this is part of a movement to stop the bulling of kids at school by other kids, since these characters tend to repeat a lot that they are all different and unique in their very own way, making them special. And they share the love.

I recommend this doll to all doll lovers. The doll itself is only recommended for ages 6+ because of the small pieces. For more details on this review, look at the video review on this doll, and the photos. I really hope you enjoy this doll as much as I do.

La revisión de hoy es en un muy interesante personaje de la serie de muñecas de Monster High distribuidas por Mattel. Ella es parte de un set llamado Skull Shores (Isla Calavera). Esto es de cuando los monstruos de Monster High salieron de vacaciones de primavera, y terminaron varados en esta muy peculiar isla. Esta aventura inspiró este set de 8 muñecas, y para identificarles, deberán buscar por ese nombre al frente de las cajas de estas muñecas. Todas las muñecas de este set visten traje de baño y faldas pareo.

No hace mucho compré esta muñeca, pensando en que bueno, es única y diferente en la mejor de las formas. He escuchado con anterioridad de padres que no gustan de comprar muñecas a sus hijas debido a el estereotipo de "princesa", y aunque personalmente no concuerdo, para estas personas, esta puede ser una estupenda opción para adquirir muñecas ya sea para coleccionar, o para que sus hijas jueguen con ellas.

Esta muñeca en particular, está basado en un personaje llamado Ghoulia Yelps, quien es la hija de los zombis. Pienso que ha sido muy astuto considerando que los zombis comen cerebros, y este personaje es una cerebrito. Ella es sumamente audaz e inteligente, especialmente en las ciencias y las computadoras, según la serie. Supongo esta fue una de las razones por la cual la compré. No soy muy fanática de los zombies del todo, pero esta muñeca tenía ese no se que, que no me dio alternativa más que tomarla de el estante y comprarla. Adoro los colores que usaron para crearla, algunos son mis favoritos.

En definitiva, uno de los atributos que mejor definen a estas muñecas, son el hecho de que sus coyunturas se mueven, y de esta forma puedes acomodarlas en diferentes poses. 

Los atributos físicos de esta muñeca son:

• - Mide alrededor de 11 pulgadas de alto.
• - Sus coyunturas se mueven, y algunas partes se remueven. (Brazos y manos)
• - Su cabello es azul y tiene mechones celestes, y es el primer estilo de este personaje con el cabello corto.
• - Su atuendo es de un traje de baño negro, con aplicaciones en rojo, tanto en su cintura como el cuello V en la parte de el pecho, y manchas y tirantes en color verde. Muy bonito traje. También viste con un pareo rojo con impresiones en forma de cerebros.
• - Para accesorios, viene con un coco en forma de cráneo, donde la bebida es como un cerebro rojo, y este viene con su pajilla y una sombrilla de huesitos. En su brazo izquierdo lleva puesto un brazalete rojo como goteando sangre, el cual combina con sus zapatos de tacón rojo-semi transparentes.
• - También lleva puestos un par de lentes de sol verdes, ya que están en una playa.
• - La muñeca viene con un cepillo para el cabello con el logo de Monster High, y su stand para poderla dejar de pié, ambos en el mismo color de verde.
• - En este paquete también se incluye una pequeña estampa con el personaje en caricatura y de reverso el mapa de la Isla Calavera. También incluye el instructivo.

Esta es una gran muñeca para comenzar una colección especial y única. Esta línea de muñecas salió a la venta por primera vez en el año 2010, y desde entonces han sacado diferentes tipos de sets distribuidos por Mattel. Estas muñecas han sido inspiradas en monstruos de diferentes historias de horror, dejándonos ver otra versión en posibilidades para muñecas.

En mi, dejan la impresión de que son parte de un movimiento para promover que los jóvenes dejen de molestar y burlarse de otros chicos que son diferentes. En la serie, se recalca esta idea una y otra vez, siendo que los personajes se recuerdan unos a otros que todos son diferentes y únicos, y esto los hace especiales, compartiendo cariño y una gran amistad.

Le recomiendo esta muñeca a todos los amantes de muñecas que como yo, buscan llenar sus vitrinas con artículos únicos como estos. En sí la muñeca es recomendada para mayores de 6 años, ya que contienen piezas pequeñas que podrían perderse y ser peligrosas para niños más pequeños.
